2010 Quarterbacks

Key Departures: Daryll Clark
Projected Depth Chart: Kevin Newsome (So), Paul Jones (Fr)/Robert Bolden (Fr), Matt McGloin (So - aka, BrdsGroin)
Additional Depth: I usually don't put the non-scholarship depth on these, but I found the number of quarterbacks on this team interesting - John Kelly (Fr - 6'1"/203, MD), Shane McGregor (Fr - 6'1"/197, PA, I believe he and Hill got reps in the spring game), Steven Hill (Fr - 6'1"/209, TX), Garrett Venuto (Fr - 6'/215, NY)
Incoming Commits: Paul Jones, Robert Bolden (already on the depth chart)
I believe we will miss Mr. Clark a lot more than we think right now. While he can be blamed for some bad decisions in the 4 losses he's incurred while a starter, you can't overlook his performances in his 20 wins. Every time he won a game, it was considered not to be a big game after the fact. Take, for instance, the quote by an ESPN reporter that Clark was an interception machine in big games before the MSU game this year. He goes out and throw 4 TDs and no picks, and all of sudden, this wasn't really a big game.
On to next year, it's likely that Newsome will carry most of the load, as he'll have been in the system for a year and a half. It's likely we'll see more designed QB runs next year, and I hope that Newsome will learn to tuck that ball better. Look for Joe to work Newsome into the gameplan for the bowl game, as is typical in transition years.
No one liked that fact that Pat Devlin left, but it likely netted us three blue-chip QBs in the last two recruiting classes, unheard of in the JoePa era. I believe Jones is enrolling early, but I'm not sure about Bolden. Either one would have to be VERY impressive to unseat Newsome. Word from recruiting circles is that Jones' senior year has been mixed, while Bolden's has not been good. Of course, they weren't recruited for how well they were going to play this year in high school.
